  2. Nevada State High School is here to get you to where you want to be. So where is that? Do you want to own your own business? Do you want to be a doctor? A Lawyer? No matter what it is that you want to do in the future, you will need a strong résumé.

  3. WHAT CAN YOU DO DIFFERENTLY? • Everyone walks into an interview with their résumé. They walk in dressed for the job, ready for any questions that could be asked of them. How could you possibly stand out in a world such as this? We are here to give you those answers. The best way to get noticed is simply to be prepared.

  4. The Résumé Builder • NSHS has put together a way for you to stand out from the crowd. We like to call it Online Behavior Validation. Every employer wants to see good interviews. But more than that, every employer wants to see the best interviews. • By having the online validation described on the next slides, you will be able to show an employer that you know how to present yourself online. • Employers are always extremely cautious when it comes to the behavior of their employees online. One slip of the keyboard made by an employee can most definitely cause a huge liability for employers. So we are proposing a way for you to prove your knowledge of proper online behavior.

Online Behavior Validation • The first step of this process is to understand that you will be handing this over to an employer during an interview. • The second step is to begin it just like you would a résumé. The top of the validation should look like this: • Your NameYour Address • Your Phone NumberYour Email • For example: • Gentry Coston233 N. Online Behavior Validation (cont.) • Next, you will format the validation to look just like a regular résumé. • On the left of the form, you will place your screen shots or pictures of your method of communication. Thiswill provide visualsfor employers to back up the information that is then placed to the right of the pictures. Basically, everything that you write should explain your appropriate use of social networking sites, email, and even cell phones.

Exhibit A: Facebook • Facebook is used to communicate with friends and family members but not as a distraction from work. • I also run the Facebook site for Nevada State High School in order to market their mission to others. • Businesses in many different companies utilize this social network for personal and professional use in their companies and organizations. • I understand that using this method of communication is not appropriate at work and I limit my use to personal time only.

Exhibit A: Facebook (Cont.) • Notice that the first line of the information given next to the screenshots is formatted as follows: • Facebook is used to but not . • This is the format that should be used for each and every description that you give. NOTE: You do NOT have to use Facebook, Twitter, email, or your cell phone. If you communicate in other ways, by all means, include those. For example, everyone uses Google or Bing. Everything you search on these websites is kept in a database maintained by each company. If you search something on Google, in other words, you will be held liable for that search for years to come.

Exhibit B: Twitter • Twitter is a good way to communicate with hundreds of people very quickly, but is not effectively used during work time for communication between friends. • Twitter is very dangerous and must be used properly in order to see the positive effects. • I am very good at knowing how to use Twitter for the benefit of myself and for others. • Twitter is not a place for drama or inappropriate comments; it is a place for healthy communication and friendships.

  11. Where can this be found? • For your convenience, we have uploaded this file onto MOODLE. You will be able to access this, as well as the template created for you on the Announcements and Help 2012 page. Why Should You Do This? 1. This is a resume builder and is meant to help you with getting a job in the future. 2. Because Nevada State High School does everything for a reason, and this is pretty important. 3. It is for a grade and will be part of your Regents/Transition Binder. When Is It Due? This assignment will be due on November 30, 2012. That means that you have two weeks to put this together. Don’t procrastinate!
