WP3 : Applications definition and development • Further study and deployment of applications in the following domains: • Remote Home Surveillance • Get remote access to the supervision systems using a residential gateway and some additional terminals • Focus on interfacing with some existing systems, and the many aspects of security, upstream video streaming, potentially one or two-way voice communication, etc. • Private Media Sharing • Focus on the possibility to store content in a safe way and manage the granted rights • Involved partners: • Androme (WPL), Alcatel Bell, Elisa, France Telecom, KU Leuven, Nokia, Telvent, UIAH
WP3A1: TV Centered Close Community Application specification and development • Private media sharing application in combination with a social 2D/TV viewing experience • Objectives • study, evaluate and realize new network and software technologies in order to demonstrate the private media sharing application in actual lab and field trials • use the feedback gathered in WP1A2 to determine together with the end-users the necessary features of the application (probing, co-design) • TL: Alcatel Bell
WP3A2: Home Monitoring/Security • study the home device/user interaction in order to identify the needs of home owners around several services • Home monitoring: notify the remote home member when something occurs at home • Intrusion • Technical • Health • Home control: control remotely every home devices able to communicate • Ask device status remotely • Switch on/off device remotely • Home watching: get pictures from the cameras installed at home • Checking after reception of alarm • Observation • Home Metering: get access to metering devices • TL: Alcatel Bell
WP3A3: Media Sharing through 3D Virtual Interactive Communities (VIC) • Investigation of novel user experiences on private media sharing in PC-based networked social communities through a 3D presentation layer • Goals: • Implementation of a toolset for media sharing in 3D VICs and how interfaces to the non-3D world can be accomplished • Overall application level client-server architecture for 3D VIC applications • Tools for maintaining the state of the interactive objects and communicating this efficiently among the participating clients • Content upload tools • Tools that allow people to interact with the 3D VIC from mobile devices • Tools for integrating other external content sources • Investigating in what way the average home user prefers to interact and navigate in a shared 3D environment • Investigate proper access mechanisms in the 3D VICs to manage agendas, buddy lists, presence etc. and investigate interface to existing or upcoming standards • Realize a trial 3D VIC proof-of-concept application • TL: Androme
WP3A4: Multi-device multimedia community applications • This activity will concentrate in family and community interactions that explore new multimedia applications related services on media sharing. • Content and device resources handling in a multi-device environment. • Focus on the management and sharing of media : • Maintaining a shared memory of the family or community • Management of everyday life activities which are done in order to coordinate resources, keep people informed, sustained relationships, etc • Exchanging and sharing of information about services and content • Develop understanding and strategies do deal with : • Seamless and flexible collaboration between devices and services • Compatible data formats • Reliable and customisable security, and fine-grained control over data access • Individually customized and highly usable user interfaces • Fair and unobtrusive charging and billing architecture • User manageable system integration • TL: UIAH
