  2. A neuroendocrine tumor (NET) is a rare type of tumor that develops from cells of the neuroendocrine system, which is responsible for regulating hormones and nerve functions in the body. These tumors can occur in various organs, including the pancreas, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and other parts of the body. NETs can be benign or malignant and may produce hormones that can cause specific symptoms depending on their location and function.

This may involve checking for swollen lymph nodes or evaluating symptoms associated with excess hormone secretion if a tumor is present. Imaging Tests Imaging tests such as CT scans, MRIs, or ultrasounds may be conducted on the patient to obtain images of the tumor within the body. In the case of neuroendocrine tumors, PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scans are sometimes utilized to generate images.

  6. Biopsy Biopsy is a procedure used to obtain a sample of cells for testing. The doctor may insert a long, thin tube into the patient's lungs, esophagus, or rectum, or perform a bronchoscopy. The goal is to collect cells for analysis. Tests To Look For Excess Hormones The doctor may also request blood or urine tests from the patient to assess for symptoms of excessive hormone secretion, which can sometimes occur with neuroendocrine tumors.
