PLACE What is it like there, what kind of place is it? • Physical Characteristics • Landforms (mountains, rivers, etc.), climate, vegitation, wildlife, soil, etc. • Human Characteristics • What are the main languages, customs, and beliefs. • How many people live, work, and visit a place.
Site and Situation • Every place has a site and a situation • Site: Internal physical and cultural characteristics of a place • Situation: Location of a place in relation to the physical and cultural characteristics around it. The more connected a place is, the better its situation. • What are the site and situation characteristics of Round Lake? • Site? • Situation?
Space and Spatial interaction • Space: Geographers are always looking at space: rooms, countries, parks, continents, cyberspace, rivers. • The distance from here to there • Spatial Interaction: How do places interact with each other across space?
