God’s Anointing - OT • Hebrew masahmeans “anoint by smearing, pouring or spreading holy oil of someone” • Hebrew masiahmeans “Messiah or the Anointed One” of God • In OT God’s Anointing is the way of Consecrating one to God’s Service – usually priests as in Ex 30:30
God’s Anointing - NT • Greek aleipho is used for “general anointings” but also used in Ex 40:15 – LXX for anointing priests • Greek chriomeans “to consecrate one for service to God” • Greek Christos is “the Anointed One” of God referring to Jesus Christ • Anointing in NT is Spiritual Enablement for Service to God; Anointing sick (James 5:14)
Anointing in the Early Church • Practiced “laying on of hands” as really a Sacrament of the Church, as Church Leadership in Cooperation with the Holy Spirit would lay their hands on Believers as a means of Imparting God’s Anointing for Service/Leadership (2 Tim 1:6) • God’s Anointing is God the Holy Spirit Coming onto & into a Believer to Enable that person to become Useful for the Eternal Work of the Kingdom of God on Earth (Acts 1:8; 4:31)

If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever.
