Agenda • Scanner Basics • Effective Optics Design • Largest, Most Effective Scan Pattern • Built-in Presentation Scan Pattern • Dual Focal Points • 3D Scan Power Coverage • Pacesetter III - Adaptive Label Reconstruction • Other Features • Summary
LASER BEAM Creation of the Scan Pattern The pattern that you see is the result of one laser beam dot projected off mirrors. Top of Scanner Deck Additional Mirrors LASER DIODE SPINNING SET OFMIRRORS
LASER BEAM The Spinner Motor The spinner motor is responsible for sending the laser dot into space to read the UPC code. The faster the motor, the more beams. The more beams, the better chance the cashier has of scanning the item. Spinner Motor Laser Beam travels at 1900 MPH The NCR 7872 has the fastest spinner motor of ANY retail scanner on the market at 8,000 RPM. The nearest competitive scanner’s spinner motor operates at 4,500 RPM -- The NCR 7872’s spinner motor is 78% faster.
83046 00010 0 4 Finding the UPC Once outside the scanner windows, the “LASER BEAM DOT” is responsible for crossing over the UPC (Universal Product Code) as the item is passed across the scanner.
83046 00010 0 4 The Pattern Finds the UPC The UPC can be read by more than one of the beams. The electronics or “brains” of the scanner makes this possible.
NCR Pacesetter electronics are the fastest and most powerful “brains” PACESETTER De-Codes
83046 83046 00010 00010 Effective Optics Design If the laser beam hits the UPC at too great of an angle, the label will not be read. The NCR 7872 optics provides superior coverage of the UPC label. It is difficult to read a barcode when an ELLIPSE is too elongated. Scanner top deck

Presentation Scan Pattern • The presentation scan pattern that is built into the NCR 7872 provides an ideal method of scanning for single item scanning and coupons. • This can result in up to a 40% improvement in scan time for these items Vertical Windows Presentation Scanning

It appears out of focus. The TWO FOCAL POINTS featured with the NCR 7872 allows the label to the right to appear in focus thus, improving first pass read rates. Each of the forty beams focuses on two points in space at the same time.
3D Scan Power Coverage • The 3D Scan Power metric describes how easily a scanner can find a label. • This is based on the amount of laser coverage you would have on a moving product and how many times you can reach the location with a spot of laser light. • This is the MOST accurate metric to date to objectively measure TRUE scan power of retail bar code scanners.
Bottom (B) Far (F) Top (T) Near (N) Leading (LD) Trailing (TD) Superior 3D Scan Power A product can be viewed as having six sides: Bottom, Far, Top, Near, Leading, and Trailing. To measure these sides equitably, a measurement of each side from a 2-Dimensional area to a linear representation is summed to declare a span of coverage. Scan Coverage = B + F + T + N + LD + TD Delineate Repetitions of Scan Pattern Per Second Scan Power = Spinner Motor RPM / 60 Integrate Scan Coverage and Scan Power into SingleMetric Scan Power Coverage = Scan Power X Scan Coverage
Superior 3D Scan Power This figure of merit directly relates to scanner performance and productivity at the checkout The 3D Scan Power Coverage of the NCR 7872 is 76% better than the nearest competitor
PACESETTER 3 • How it works • PACESETTER 3 determines that the problem exists, writes program code to correct the problem, stores the code in its own memory, and executes the code whenever necessary until the problem is corrected • PACESETTER 3 will capture information about the bad bar codes and can report them to you • Patent Protected • PACESETTER 3’s advanced characteristics are Patent Protected
83046 00010 0 4 PACESETTER 3 Good bar code
83046 00010 0 4 Adaptive Label Reconstruction Bad bar caused by bad thermal printer * Adaptive reasoning re-constructs the code and makes previously unreadable labels readable with 100% accuracy.
PACESETTER 3 Advantages • Speed at the Checkout • Futile second pass scans are eliminated • Eliminates keyboard entry • Successive tries are scanned on the first pass • Cashier Comfort • Keyboard entry is stressful to joints • Frustrating for cashiers • Report Bad Barcodes • Contact suppliers of poor quality labels to correct the problem

Clean Window Indicator • How it works • Turns on when debris covers 11% of laser; flashes when debris covers 12% of laser; flashes FASTER when debris covers 13% of Laser, etc. • Benefits • Prevents lost of productivity • Due to laser blockage • Due to cleaning the window when it is NOT necessary (When there are people in the queue)
Adjustable Volume / Pitch • Adjustable volume and pitch control of the speaker • Volume: 11 Ranges • Pitch: 8 Frequencies • Perfect way for cashiers to personalize their good read tone • Important feature for those cashiers that sit close to one another and often confuse their good read tone with their neighbors
Other Features • Checkpoint EAS Deactivation Option • Dual RS-232 Option • Scan Doctor • Voice synthesis describes the error and how it is to be fixed • Oversized, aluminum load cell • Firmly mounted mirrors • Scale reset button location • In-checkstand service
Other Features • Unmatched scan window strength • NCR uses high impact acrylic surfaces in the vertical window; these window surfaces cannot be broken • NCR will not compromise the safety of the cashier • Vertical window curb • Prevents objects from banging the vertical window
Summary • Strength of NCR • NCR is #1 in bi-optic scanner shipments • NCR is #1 in retail POS stationary scanner market share in the world (VDC) • Low profile design • Wide variety of sizes allow retailers the freedom to mount in seated, standing, or sit-stand combination checkstands • Superior 3D Scan Power over competition • Multitude of unique features to help cashiers do their jobs better
