Gerace • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from William Paterson University • Master in the Art of Teaching as well as numerous additional graduate courses targeting reading instruction from Marygrove College & Walden University • Eighteen years teaching at PV School
Class Expectations: Students are required to come to class prepared with the following: • Positive Attitude • Five subject notebook • Completed homework • Novel • Pen and Pencil
Course Overview The objective of this class is to utilize the following resources to improve reading and writing skills. • Reading: Elements of Literature, Good Habits & Great Readers, DRA2, Success Maker , Vocabulary Workshop, novels • Writing: narrative, persuasive, speculative, expository, and quote responses • Mechanics: Elements of Language
Reading Comprehension Reading fluency and comprehension are a major focus this year. • SuccessMaker & Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA2): Assess student reading achievement and allows for targeted instruction • Class novels : students will read an array of class novels and complete comprehension quizzes, tests, and projects. • Anthology: students will read various genres. • Independent reading: students will choose novels to read independently and complete various activities to promote fluency and comprehension.
