In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The Genre and photography My media product was aimed at the Genre Nightcore it has links with the trance music seen today. This concept has determined what kind of fonts coloursand photography I use for my media product. The genre use Anime in all its videos on YouTube so for my magazine I got my friend to dress up in a few of her cos-plays and took photos. As you can see my friend looks quite “slutty” in the way she it sitting however this works with the genre as the video photos also look provocateur just computerized. This shows people the difference between my magazine and other media products out there as normally you don’t get a media products using anime characters other than manga. So my magazine develops the forms of normal media products as it is the only music magazine out there using Anime characters.
The colour scheme and front cover The colourscheme I used was red black and blue. These colours were used as Nightcore is divers ranging from rock songs to old pop classics such as the “Witch doctor” and “I’m a Barbie girl” the rock songs see artist such as black vale brides and Breaking Benjamin. The colours are to show the contrast in music the red and black are to show the rock side of Nightcore being dark and depressing and showing danger. The blue is to show the fun quirky side of Nightcore with its more mainstream and pop music. This challenges the normal conventions of a magazine as they generally use black white and red. For the front cover I used all the conventions that a normal front cover uses mast-head, tag line (however this one is not always used), central image along with the cover model using a female to attract my audience, cover lines, puff, barcode, price and edition (although the edition number is rather small). The anchorage comes with my main cover line and is used again in the contents page. I didn’t use any secondary image or puff which are normally feature on a music magazine. This is because my central image and cover model did all the work and puff’s normally go with the secondary image. Therefore if my central image does all the work to attract my male audience then no need for the secondary image or puff.
Writing Style, Fonts and text/pic ratio The writing style for my magazine was informal which uses the normal form of a magazine as they tend to follow the informal style to attract the younger audience. However I did not use and swearing in my magazine which doesn’t follow the normal form of this type of media product as the magazines tend to use swearing in the depending on the person they interview. • Also the font I used for the titles was bold and in the graffiti style not normally seen on normal magazines but a similar style to the writing in Anime titles. The main body font is bold to draw the attention of the readers which most magazines do they use bold text in order to get the readers drawn in. The text/pic ratio is well balanced on my double page. However on the front cover and the contents page the writing content out weighs the image content. This does not fit the normal conventions of a music magazine due to the fact that most have more photos than text as there readers prefer images to text, however in my magazine the things that are written are what sell the magazine.
Publisher The publisher of a magazine is vital to what sort of genre they will publish. The four main ones are Bauer, future, IPC, and Nat-Mag. Bauer and IPC focus on the music magazine targeted at the mainstream music however Bauer also focus on alternate and rock. Future and Nat-Mag on the other hand focus more on the women's and men's lifestyle magazines. Due to these more focused branches determines what sort of magazines they are looking out for. My magazine will only fit into IPC or Bauer's categorise as they are primarily music magazine publishers and follow the genres they look at due to the fact Nightcore is so divers.
