12. Summer Course Globalization and Economy • Course Description: This course focuses on how the growing impact of globalization is transforming the economy and culture of the world. It also discusses the issues on how to deal with the fast changing structures of economy and market as the globalization is being accelerated. • Course Objectives: 1. To understand the phenomenon of globalization and its possible effects; 2. To engage in intelligent debate on controversial themes of the globalization such as economic development and poverty, international trade, intellectual property, natural resources, environment, etc.; 3. To understand the operation of regional economy in the Asia-Pacific region in the context of globalization trends.

Summer Course Communication with Korean Culture • Course Description: This course broadly explores modern and contemporary trajectories and upheavals of the political, economic, cultural, and social development of Korean society. The students will learn them through examples from the nation's independence from Japanese occupation, the Korean War (1950-53), the democratization movements, transnational K-Pop cultures and industries, techno-youth cultures, digital game, food, consumer culture, the cosmetic surgery hype, etc. • Course Objective: 1. To improve understanding of the way Koreans communicate in society, as well as to help the students develop critical literacy skills in order to actively engage in questions from Korean culture and society

14. Summer Course Korean Language • Course Description: This course is designed to provide introductory knowledge of basic Korean language. It also introduces students to the main aspects of traditional Korean culture and contemporary Korean society, including those pertaining to values, religion, the family, industrialization, gender, and popular culture. • Course Objective: 1. To develop basic Korean language communicative competence 2. To give a better understanding of Korean culture and society

15. Distinguished Lecture Series It comprises of 8 special lectures by internationally renowned scholars to provide students with a better understanding of science and technology, and giving a chance to share their knowledge and insights in their field and life. • Speaker (Tentative):

Research Internship Eligibility - Students from any university are eligible to apply regardless of partnerships between UNIST and their home institutions. - 3rd and 4th year undergraduates with GPA in good standing are preferred - 2nd year undergraduates may also be eligible under strong recommendation Procedure Stipend - All participants are provided KRW 776,000 (approx. USD 700)

UM-UNIST Exchange Program • Equal Number of Student Exchange - UNIST 2 student-semesters of tuition support in exchange for offering the SPIKE for 10 UM students - In parallel, UM and UNIST will start a semester-based exchange • Emphasize “cultural fluency” through Korean culture, society, customs,etc. •Equal participation from UNIST students and international students in the same classroom •Every international student has a UNIST student as a roommate for culture exchange • For UM students, • SPIKE at UNIST • For UNIST students, • regular term • exchange at UM 2
