Insurance institutions • ASVG: health insurance for un/employed people freelance employees and apprentices; pension insurance; accident insurance for children, students, self-employed people, people with very low income, etc. • BSVG: health, accident and pension insurance for farmers and people for whom farm work is the main source of employment • And more insurance institutions for doctors, civil servants, heavy labourers
Health and accident insurance • You are insured as soon as you start working • the insurance of the parents includes their children • pays for operations, rehabilitation, therapy, medical examinations, hospital care,… • if citizens of Austria live/work, go on holidays in certain countries they’re insured too • is financed by the state and a contribution of the person insured
Pension insurance: • men with 65 years, women with 60 years if they were insured for 180 months not including the last year of employment • includes health insurance and accidents too • widower’s or widow’s pension is between 0% and 60% of the pension of the deceased
