  2. WARM UP Ms. Jones decided to purchase M&M bags and Hershey Bars for all of her students. Each M&M bag cost $3, while each Hershey Bar costs $2. She ended up spending $16 on her purchase of 6 items. Write and solve a system of equations to find out how many of each item she purchased. The “Pay Upfront” car rental company charges an insurance and gas fee of $33 and daily rental fee of $8 per day. The “Drive Now Pay Later” car rental company charges and insurance and gas fee of $18 and has a daily rental fee of $11 per day. When will the two companies be charging the rate amount of money? Frank is going to buy ties at $7.50 per ties and some shirts at $18.50 per shirt. If he buys twice as many ties as shirts and spends $205, what is the greatest number of shirts he can buy?

  8. 9. A fashion designer makes and sells hats. The material for each hat costs $5.50 and she spends $1400 on advertising. The hats sell for $12.50 each. How many hats must the designer sell to break even?

  9. 10. The length of a rectangle is 7 times its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 40 feet. Find the dimension of the rectangle.

  10. 11. The length of a rectangle is 5 inches more than its width. The perimeter is 66 inches. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

  11. 12. There are a total of 34 lions and hyenas. Each lion eats 4 antelope. Each hyena eats 3 antelope. A total of 117 antelope are eaten. How many lions and hyenas are there?

  12. 13. A movie theater charges $7 for an adult’s ticket and $4 for a child’s ticket. On a recent night, the sale of a child’s ticket was three times the sale of an adult’s ticket. If the total amount collected for the ticket sales was $1995, how many adults purchased tickets?

  13. 14. Movies Are Us has two video rental plans. The Regular video rental plan charges $3.25 for each video rental. The Preferred video rental plan has $8.75 membership fee and charges $2 for each video rental. Write a system of equations to model the above situation. How many video rentals give the two plans the same cost?

  14. 15. There are 250 students in the freshman class. The number of girls is 20 fewer than twice the number of boys. How many boys and girls are in the class?
