  1. 寿司SushiPYP4 AMY 黄诗媛The teacher: Julia Deng 邓美娥 Sushi (寿司) is a kind of food which comes from Japan. Sushi has a long history. It's a popular dish in America, UK, and many other countries. There are different kinds of sushi. Nigiri sushi is made with fish or vegetables that are put on top of sushi rice. Maki sushi is made with fish or vegetables rolled up inside rice.

  2. What is inside? • Sushi is made with rice. All types of sushi have some kind of rice. The rice is mixed with vinegar. There are other things in it like vegetables and raw fish called "neta". Some sushi is wrapped in seaweed (sometimes called "nori"), some is not. Some kinds of fish are safe to eat raw, and do not make people ill.

  3. How do you make Sushi ? Prepare sushi rice by mixing vinegar mixture in steamed Japanese rice. Wet your hands with some sushi vinegar mixture used to make sushi rice. Take some sushi rice in your hand. Lightly shape it into an oval mound. Take a piece of flattened shrimp in the other hand. Put a dab of wasabi (Japanese horseradish) on the belly side of the shrimp. Place the sushi rice on top of the shrimp. *The wasabi should be placed between the sushi rice and the shrimp.

  4. Lightly press the sushi rice with your fingers. Roll the sushi over so that the shrimp side comes on top of the rice. • Lightly press the shrimp side with your fingers. Turn the sushi around so that the tail of the shrimp comes toward you. • Again, lightly press the sushi with your fingers. • Serve the sushi.

  5. How is Sushi sold? • In Japan, sushi is sometimes sold in “conveyor-belt shops”, where plates of sushi are put on a moving belt which passes by the customers. People freely take the sushi they want as it passes. The color of the plate shows the price of the sushi. At some shops, any plate is 100 yen.
