  6. Works Progress Administration (WPA) • Goal to create as many jobs as possible - $11 billion cost • Many unskilled workers - put to work on random jobs • Rebuilt and updated U.S. infrastructure - roads, airports, parks

  7. WPA and NYA • WPA put artists and actors to work - painted murals, plays - photojournalists (Dorothea Lange) • National Youth Administration (NYA) - provided training for young people - part time jobs - Why was this program necessary?

  13. Dustbowl and the Farmers • Dustbowl - caused by drought and poor soil conservation • Soil Conservation and Allotment Act - education, conservation - paid to not plant certain crops
