History Then • In Ancient Greece beggars were accepted as an inevitable nuisance. As part of their dress they wore ‘scrips’ (wallets) in which they carried away the food they received. Most donations were done within the church. Now • People use jars/containers in stores to collect money for specific organizations, with these they also send stores papers with a barcode located on these slips of paper to electronically donate through the stores system. Each charity/organization also have their own website where anyone is able to donate. The number of charities and organizations have increased significantly. • Americans gave more than $290.89 billion to their favorite causes despite the economic conditions • The greatest portion of charitable giving, $211.77 billion, was given by individuals or household donors
Mission Statement • Problem Statement: • There is an inefficiency in the donation system at convenience, restaurant, and retail stores using jars for collection. Customers and employees feel insecure about the safety and assuredness. • Mission Statement: • The Personal Donation System project's mission is to design a new hardware and software system to enable safer, more secure and efficient donation by customers and the general public so that donation rates will increase and the money will be assured to reach its' intended recipient and also provide the donator with the ease and peace of mind of tracking donations through an online system located on our website.
What is P.D.S. • The Personal Donation System is an interactive system designed to create a safer and more efficient donating process for the consumer. • Our goal is to increase donations by 25 percent over the next 5 years while creating a donation system that is safer, more secure, and simpler that allows the user to be more interactive. • Financially the goal is to break-even as the project is going for non-profit status. Technologically the P.D.S. aims to be easy to use, and involve a low maintenance hardware and software system for donations that will transfer to a computer website.
Project Charter • Requirements for the project lie primarily in acquiring investors and funding. The main limitation associated with P.D.S. is it’s need for widespread installation and training. • Murphy Tetley – Chief Executive Officer • Robert Williams – Project Manager • Kayla English – System Analyst • Andrea Hutchinson - Change Manager • Tyler Phillips &Daniel Armah -Hardware Specialists • Lisa Coppersmith – Business Analyst • Mr. Williams will lead the project, monitor its performance and make decision on how to keep the project on track. If a problem does arise he will work with his executive team and the Stakeholders to come up with the best solutions to resolve the issues. This Project is our top priority, so we ask the functional managers to provide any resources that we need. Mr. Williams will present status reports every 2 weeks to keep the executive committee informed.
