Yalda!. The Iranian people say that 4,000 years ago the sun and the darkness fought. The sun won. Today the sun is still in power and there hasn’t been a fight since. They also celebrate it because of the birth of the King Sassanid.

The Iranian people say that 4,000 years ago the sun and the darkness fought. The sun won. Today the sun is still in power and there hasn’t been a fight since. They also celebrate it because of the birth of the King Sassanid.
Today during Yalda serving's of fresh and decorated fruit are eaten. Pomegranates are traditionally eaten on this night. It is celebrated during the midwinter.
Today family's hold a traditional gatherings. Fruit is placed on a koris. A koris is a traditional piece of furniture similar to a very small table. Around the koris the family sits on the ground. A blanket made of wool filling is thrown under the table.
