  2. Computer Care Today’s Objective: Learning the proper ways to care for computers.

  4. Computer Care • Keep away from direct sunlight • Do not block vents on the CPU • Keep away from air conditioning ducts and avoid dusty locations • Do not move while it is still in use • Exit programs properly • Use virus check program • Keep magnets away • Use surge protector

  5. Keyboard Care • Should not have food • Should not have liquids • Should not stick anything between the keys including paper clips • Should not bang on keys • Should not take keys off

  6. Mouse Care • Don’t pull on the cord to hard • Use buttons appropriately • Clean it correctly depending on what kind it is • Use a mouse pad • Keep optical or roller ball clean of dust and dirt.

  7. Monitor Care • Clean screen regularly • Don’t cover vents • No magnets • Turn off monitor when computer is not in use • Use a screen saver • Dust the monitor

  8. Speakers • Do not pull on the cords. • Do not turn the volume up too loud. • Do not drop or break the speaker. • Do not pour liquids inside the speaker. • Plug them up correctly.

  9. Hard Drive Care • Install virus protection software • Backup files (always have two copies) • Run disk scan program. • Keep files organized

Disk/CD Care • Not to be removed from drives when drive is running • Keep away from magnets • Keep away from liquids and foods • Keep in containers designed for CD’s or disks keep in clean, cool, and dry place • Not to be stored close to heat vents or air conditioning vents • Do not touch the back and scratch it • Avoid hot and cold locations • Insert it into drive properly face up

Printer Care • Dust periodically with a soft cloth • Secure all connections and use the correct cable • Do not shut off printer while it is printing or pull out the paper while printing • Insert ink and paper properly • Have manual & technical support telephone number available • Use the correct ink or toner • Use the correct paper

Digital Camera • Clean regularly • Do not subject to knocks, vibrations, and magnetic fields, smoke, water, steam, sand, or chemicals • Handle all moving parts with care • Turn camera off before removing or disconnecting power source or cable or removing battery or memory card • Do not store or use in humid, dusty or dirty places • Keep away from extreme hot or cold locations • Avoid direct sunlight for long periods • Avoid scratches with sharp or hard objects • Keep dry and free of condensation • Store correctly when not in use • Do not drop it in water

  13. Computer Maintenance • Check and secure all plug-ins, then restart your computer • Keep computer manuals available • Locate and read the “Troubleshooting” section of your manual • Make back up copies all data files • Locate and keep the technical support phone number next to your computer

  14. Computer CarePoster Create a poster from what you have learned today on how to take care of computers. Make sure you include all of the following things in your poster. They are: • Put your name on the back • Pick a computer part and label it as your title • Draw the computer part • Write a paragraph describing the part, tell how to take care of the part, and tell what not to do to the part. Computer Care Book • Create a booklet and choose 2 reasons from each category and explain Why? • Get the sheet that has all of the items and the care directions on it to use. • Title each page with the name of the part. • Draw a small picture of the part on the appropriate page • Make sure your name and class is on the front cover • Draw a picture on the front cover • Title the front Cover “Computer Care Book”
