  1. The Prayer of Jesus: Living The Lord’s Prayer By Ken Hemphill Lesson Two: Three Realities of Prayer

  2. Prayer Scale Non-Existent Amazing

  3. “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

  4. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:19-25 ESV)

  5. “Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25 ESV)

  6. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26 ESV)

  7. Do these verses change the way you look at and feel about prayer?

  8. “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:9-13 ESV)

  9. First Reality: No Man is an Island

  11. Prayer should always remind us that we are part of a larger community. Why? If we replaced “I,” “me,” or “my”; with “our,” would this change your prayer life? How? How does community effect our answered prayer?

  12. Second Reality: A Family Connection

  13. How did the Old Testament writers speak of God? Isaiah 63:16; Jeremiah 3:19-20; Malachi 1:6 How did Jesus speak of God in prayer? Mark 14:35-36

  14. “It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?

  15. For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:7-11 ESV Do these verses apply to prayer? Why or why not?

  16. Third Reality: Our Sovereign God

  17. sov·er·eign: noun a supreme ruler, especially a monarch. Adjective possessing supreme or ultimate power.

  18. What do these verses tell us about God’s nature of character? 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 Psalm 100:5 1 John 4:7-8 How does God’s nature affect who or what you bring to Him in prayer?

  19. Prayer must be God-centered and kingdom focused. Why? If our highest priority is to seek our Father and His righteousness, how does that affect how we: Pray Use your Time, Treasures, & Talents Relationships

  20. “For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:32-33 ESV
