  2. LOCATION • Location: Africa • Algeria is in all four hemispheres • 2nd largest country in Africa. • 11th largest country in the world.

  3. GEOGRAPHY & CLIMATE • 80-90% of Algeria is a desert. • Has biggest sand dunes. • It is hot, arid weather and at night it can get very cold

  4. ALGIERS • Capital of Algeria. • Population: 1.7 million people • Algiers is sometimes known as“The White City” because of the buildings.

  5. LANGUAGE • Arabic is the main language spoken in Algeria. • French & Berber are also spoken

  6. CURRENCY • The main money used in Algeria is called a Dinar. • One U.S dollar is worth about 80 Dinars.

  7. JOBS & EDUCATION • Hardly anyone has jobs in Algeria, and if they do, they must have worked hard for it. • School is mandatory for all children ages 6- 15 years old.

  8. Chaabi • Chaabi is sometimes referred to as “The people’s music”.

  9. SPORTS • Algerians favorite sports are soccer, and running.
