ISO 20000 Certification: An International Standard for Service Management The first International Standard for service management was developed in the year 2005 by ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 which later revised in the year 2011 and 2018. Earlier this standard was developed by BSI group known by BS 15000. This standard originally followed the best guidance practices which are contained in ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library). ISO 20000 Certification has revised by the system which now focuses on the IT Service management system and IT Governance. This revision has been released in the year 2018. To improve the quality of IT services to meet the requirement of end business IT service management with various tools came into existence. To implement this standard at respective workplace management should ensure that to follow the appropriate process with the right set of people and IT service providers should have a thorough understanding of Information Technology. This process may take proper planning, establishing and implementing, operating and monitoring, reviewing and maintaining which eventually improving the management services of the IT sector. To fulfil the service requirements it further includes the designing, transition, and improvement of services. 2018 version of standard based on the High-Level Structure which includes in the consolidated ISO directives comprises of Scope of work, Normative References, Terms, and conditions defining various definitions, Organization need in their context, leadership, and planning, required support of service management system, Service management system operations, Performance evaluation, and service improvement. It guides the service management system based on the standard requirement. This being a process-based methodology which includes process prototyping, process Building, process implementation, and process tuning, further adding it is based on sustaining, maturing and process improving. For continual improvement in this standard, there is an explicit requirement. It revolves around Plan-Do-Check-Action endless process and continual improvement. Each tuning phase acts as a PDCA cycle. IT industry specifies the roles and responsibilities to manage the IT service which is based on High-Level benefits. To increase the efficiency and productivity of the company best industrial practices with the scalable process need to follow. To increase the control and support for regulatory compliance IT SMS plays a vital role. Implementing this standard also gains customer trust in the IT sector. Visibility and understanding of IT-related will also increase by manifold. It improves operational performance. It also gains Business benefits, which involves a better understanding of business requirements which eventually proves to be a better fitment for IT services. The level of IT service availability also increases business productivity. Expectations of business management also increase System efficiency increases by cost reduction. This standard helps the Organization to benchmark its ITSM which improves services and also meets the customer requirements and also creates a framework for an independent assessment. For IT service Providers this standard has some benefit: For demonstrating reliability and high-quality service it offers competitive differentiation. Many Organizations in the public sector mandate that their IT service providers should have compliance with ISO 20000 which gives access to the key markets. All service requirements will be fulfilled it gives assurance to the clients.
