  3. The Subjunctive Mood The subjunctive mood gives probable information. Something that: • Might or could happen in the future • Could have happened differently • You want to happen Hypothetical / Everything Else

  4. The Subjunctive Mood The subjunctive can be used in independent and dependent clauses. Dependent: • Conditions • Purpose • Result • Characteristic • Time • Indirect questions and commands Independent: • Exhortation, Command • Concession • Wish • Question of Doubt • Possibility

  5. The Subjunctive Mood Good news!! The subjunctive only has four tenses: Present Imperfect Perfect Pluperfect

  6. Translating Verbs in the subjunctive DO NOT have one translation, but depend on their sentence or clause for their translation. [[Even this can be difficult, since the correct forms of the subjunctive in English are not always used.]]
