  1. WORK BOOK SET UP & PROCEDURES YEAR 9 MATHEMATICS

  2. Book set up You are required to have two exercise books, each with a specific purpose. • Bound Reference – Contains your theory notes. It is a valuable resource which you will be able to use in tests and exams. • Workbook – Contains all your completed exercises,worksheets and log sheets for each topic. We will go through the setup of the workbook.

  3. Book set up – Bound Reference • Your page should be ruled, with the date and topic name at the top of your page. (preferably in an alternative colour) • After each set of notes you should rule a line to show completion of the notes.

  4. Book set up - Workbook • Rule down the middle of the page. • Hint: paste sheets onto left page and do work on right page (so, only rule right pages). • Number every page

  5. New topic • Write the topic name at the beginning of the topic. • Preferably use a different colour to that you use for working out.

New topic • At the beginning of each lesson: write the date where you are up to that day. • At the beginning of each exercise: write the work to complete i.e. exercise, page and the questions to complete • If the exercise goes onto a new page, again list the exercise, but only list the questions you have not yet completed.

New topic • At the beginning of each lesson: write the date where you are up to that day. • At the beginning of each exercise: write the work to complete i.e. exercise, page and the questions to complete • If the exercise goes onto a new page, again list the exercise, but only list the questions you have not yet completed.

  10. Questions • Write the question number, and if applicable pronumeral, preferably in red pen. • Complete questions in blue or black pen or pencil. • Unless your teacher tells you otherwise, write each question out. • Leave a blank line between each numbered question (not pronumeral).

  11. Working out • Begin working out the answer on the next line down from the question. • Each line of working out goes onto a new line. • You work down the page, so the next question is done under the previous one.

  12. Correcting Work • Correct work either: • After completing each question or • At the end of the exercise. • Show work has been corrected by ticking it if it is correct. • If work is incorrect, re-do the question. If you get it wrong again, ask for help.

  13. Completion of Exercise • Once the exercise is completed, rule a line underneath the last question to show the end of the exercise. • Once it is completed and corrected, complete your log sheet by filling in your confidence level for that exercise. Then show your teacher your completed work.
