George Bernard Shaw • Irish playwright • Plays often commented on some aspect of society, but with a twist of humor • Commonly addressed issues: • Education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege • Won a Nobel Prize in Literature, and an Oscar for his contributions to the stage play adapted from his famous play, “Pygmalion” of the same name.

  3. Pygmalion • Named after a Greek mythological character “Pygmalion” • Sculptor who fell in love with a statue he carved. • Written in 1912 • First premiered on stage in 1913 • Made into a film in 1964 featuring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison
