Present Continuous Use the present continuous to stress the continuing nature of an action or activity. Examples: Mike is watching his favorite show on TV. The Smiths are looking for a new house. The present continuous can also refer to a future event, when a day or time is mentioned. Examples: The book fair is opening on Monday. I’m attending college in the fall.
Simple Past • An action or a series of actions started and finished in the past. • Example: Susan did her homework and then went to her friend Nancy's house. • A duration that started and finished in the past. • Example: Kim attended Harvard for three years.
