1. Persona: Potential Wimba User • About Bert: Bert is a sophomore Biology major here at Bloomsburg University. He is planning to become a dentist someday. One of his most important personal values is family. He is a calm, relaxed, yet outgoing young man. Bert has taken many general education courses thus far, including: Reading II, Writing II, and College Study Skills. He is also involved in the ACT 101 program here at BU as well. His extra curricular activities include intramural sports, and he likes to play basketball in his free time. • Why he would use the Wimba instructions: Bert has taken several classes involving writing, and he may in the future. He sometimes struggles with his writing in certain scenarios, and this is where the help of a tutor would be appropriate. Bert would also benefit from an online tutoring session because he would not have to travel to campus for this extra help. This service could also help him because he has to fulfill certain tutoring requirements under the ACT 101 program. Bert has used online chat software like Skype and ooVooas well. Although he is not familiar with Wimba, this experience will help him adjust to this online teaching tool. 2. Persona: Potential Wimba User • About Max: Max is a graduate student in Bloomsburg University’s MBA program. He plans to live a good, productive life making plenty of money. Max agrees with liberal values, and is extroverted as well. He has taken many graduate courses here at BU. Some of these classes include: MIS, Financial Management, and Accounting. Max is a graduate student who is also working a job outside of school. He visits the writing center frequently, but does not always have time to come into the center because of a hectic schedule. • Why he would use the Wimba instructions: Max often has writing assignments for various courses within the business field. He visits the writing center at Bloomsburg regularly for help on his grammar in papers. Max is an ESL student as well, and he values the service the writing center provides for him. He occasionally finds it difficult to make it to campus for extra help, like tutoring. He has used Skype before, and this will help with the navigation of Wimba. On the other hand, he is not familiar with Wimba at all. Max thinks that an online set of instructions for Wimba would be beneficial for students because he thinks technical problems might get in the way of an online tutoring session. 3. Persona: Potential Wimba User • About Tyler: Tyler is a junior Marketing major at Bloomsburg University. He is planning to graduate and find a job close to home in the marketing field. Tyler’s values include trust and reliability too. He is a little shy, but also kind, optimistic, and respectful. Some of the courses he has taken at Bloomsburg include: Principles of Marketing, Accounting I and II, Law and Legal Environment, and Economics I. Tyler is interested in movies, video games, and technology in general. He is also involved in the American Marketing Association and intramural flag football here at BU. • Why he would use the Wimba instructions: Tyler has not written too much for his classes thus far, but the Business field does involve writing in many areas. He also admits that he struggles with branching off of ideas that he has already started in writing assignments. He could find a writing tutor useful because of his struggles with writing, but he can also find an online tutoring session beneficial because he is shy. Tyler has plenty of experience with chat programs like ooVoo and Skype as well. This will make the adjustment to Wimba easier even though he has never used this online teaching tool.
