An Amphibian’s Life Cycle By Sam and David
The Egg #1 The egg is the first stage of the life cycle. The baby inside is called the embryo. Some embryos grow so fast that they hatch a few days after the egg is laid. They even look like eyeballs!!!
#2 When the embryo hatches, it is a larva. More than one larva is called larvae. They look different than there parents. Tadpoles, frog larvae has a tail, no legs, and gills to breath underwater. Larvae
#3 Growing to Adults After a while, the amphibian’s body fully develops. The tadpole’s tail grows in, legs form, and the gills disappear so the frogs can go on land. But they can still go on water.
Review • What is a Tadpole? • What does the egg look like? • Larva is 1 tadpole or 2? • Can tadpoles go on land? • Will this cycle repeat over and over again?
