  1. Tacky and the Winter Games By Helen Lester1.9(A) describe the plot (problem and solution) and retell a story’s beginning, middle, end with attention to the sequence of events.

  2. The problem of the story is Tacky and his friends are training for the Winter Games. All of Tacky’s friends are training for the Winter Games, but Tacky does not try. Tacky tries to train with his friends, but he does not train as well as the other penguins.

  3. Arrange the important events of the story in the correct order. Beginning Middle End Tacky charged under his teammates and sped them through the finish line, but they were disqualified. Tacky swallowed the baton and ran through the finish line first. Tacky thawed out his fish skis and he flipped down the hill, losing the medal for the team.

  4. The solution to the story is Tacky loses the race for his team because he is too slow. The judge sent Tacky to get x-rayed and they saw the baton in his middle. After Tacky was x-rayed, the judge saw the baton and gave Tacky and his team the medal.
