  1. 10 reasons why everyone should do Physics&How to succeed.

  2. Why everyone should do Physics • 1. Most modern technology involves physics. Any technology involving electricity, magnetism, force, pressure, heat, light, energy, sound, optics, etc. comes from physics. • 2. An understanding of physics leads to a better understanding of almost any other science.

  3. 3. Physics classes help polish the skills needed to score well in exams. Physics classes provide practice in both algebra and geometry. To work physics problems, students must be able to read and comprehend short paragraphs then develop problem solving strategies from them. Physics helps develop both math and verbal skills.

  4. Further education • 4. Many further education providers recognize the value of physics classes. TAFE etc. tend to be favorably impressed by transcripts containing challenging classes like physics. • 5. Success for virtually all science, computing, engineering, and biology courses depends in part on physics. Physics is helpful for many of these courses. Engineering is largely applied physics. Pre-medicine majors typically must take the same number of physics as biology classes!

  5. Thinking skills • 6. Physics classes hone thinking skills. Physics is a whole brain subject requiring students to use both right and left brain regions for translating complex verbal information into pictures and finally into mathematical models in order to solve problems.

  6. Physics is the backbone of Engineering • 7. The job market for people with skills in physics is strong. Engineers are applied physicists and comprise the second largest profession in America

  7. The Arts • 8. A knowledge of physics is helpful for understanding the arts. Many commonly used expressions in everyday language come from physics, including quantum leap, free fall, light years, black holes, resonance, and being on the same wave length.

  8. And finally… • 9. To understand physics is to better understand politics, history, and culture. Due to global warming, the supply and use of energy is a high-profile 21st century issue. • 10. Physics offers a deep and unique perspective in itself: There is quite simply no other area of study quite like it.

  9. How to succeed in Physics

  10. Listen to your teacher • At times I may have to discuss concepts with the class. This could require 10 minutes of your attention. • Whilst doing activities, practicals and group work you will have plenty of time to socialise

  11. Be responsible for your own learning • Before class preparation • Read the topics before class (light reading). Make a mental note of troublesome areas. • Active involvement during class • Stay focused and alert (thinking, reacting). A presentation of content is not a TV show!

  12. Be here and review the material • After class review • Review important points learned during the class. Try the suggested Review Questions. Take your own summary notes • Class attendance • Very important! Studies consistently show that better attendees do better in class.

  13. Participate, practice and gain confidence • Develop real confidence • The beginning of understanding is the willingness to question your own knowledge. Learning takes time. • Studying for exams tests and SACS • Last minute studying does not work! Get help if you need it, I am always willing to help!

  14. Exams • Taking exams • Relax! Read the questions carefully and take your time in answering them. Aim for a better performance, not a better grade.

  15. Give it your best shot • If you try your best as teacher’s we can see the effort you put in. Any student who tries their best and fails outcomes will be given another chance to demonstrate that they can achieve that outcome

  16. Take it seriously or nic off • If you are a lazy bludger who does no work, disrespects other class members and then fails outcomes…… Don’t expect a resit. • Believe it or not you can still have fun at school whilst still achieving academically

  17. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t force them to drink. We can not make you learn Physics. All we can do is provide the knowledge and environment to learn. You must be actively involved in learning Physics. Learn by discovery, take responsibility. A teacher can not do the work for you

  18. Why are we here? Think Pair Share • Discuss with the person next to you why you decided to choose this subject • & also discuss what you can do to perform well in Physics List everything down to share with the class
