Project Profile • Funded as Best Practice Network in ICT-PSP program of EC • Duration: 2012-2015
Europeana Newspapers: Aims and Objectives • Aims at the aggregation and refinement of newspapers for The European Library and Europeana. • Will use refinement methods for OCR, OLR (article segmentation), and named entity (NER) and class recognition • The libraries participating in the project will provide around 18 million digitised newspaper pages to Europeana • Further libraries will be encouraged to contribute newspapers to Europeana and TEL by the project
Project Consortium • 17 partners from 12 countries • National libraries • University libraries • Others (association, private company) • External partners and stakeholders: • Involvement of libraries outside the project consortium • Various stakeholders engagement (users, technical experts, typography experts, historians etc.)

University Library in Belgrade: Role • Involved in all segments of the project • Adds 380.000 pages of newspapers published in Serbia before 1941. • Librarians from Belgrade will participate in developing EDM and finding new ways to make Europeana content more usable and more used. • aims at creating innovative digital objects that will catch attention of users and bring back into focus the quality historical content.
