  1. Characters of the Trojan War… You and a small group need to create a “web” of the following characters from the Trojan War: Each character should be strategically placed on the page with the ways they are linked to others clearly shown and displayed. • Zeus • Hera • Athena • Aphrodite • Persephone • Thetis • Eris • Apollo • Ares • Hephaestus • Paris • Hector • Priam • Hecuba • Andromache • Cassandra • Antenor • Polyxena • Laocoon • Helen • Agamemnon • Iphigenia • Menelaus • Achilles • Odysseus • Protesilaus • Palamedes • Nauplius • Nestor • Ajax • Patroclus • Diomedes • Chryseis • Briseis • Calchas • Sinon

  2. Process… • To create the characters poster you need to first gather information on the various characters. • Arrange characters on the poster in a symbolic way. (Since it is a war perhaps a line of battle would make sense or perhaps central characters in the middle and successive rings for lesser characters.) • Place characters and provide their relationships with arrows and descriptions. • Provide an epithet for each character.

  3. Epithets… • Epithets were a big part of Greek Literature, especially the most famous examples, the Homeric Epics. • Def: a descriptive adjective or phrase that is repeatedly used with—or in place of—a noun or proper name. • Modern Example: • “The man of steel”—Superman • “The Dark Knight”—Batman • Greek Example: • “Wine dark sea”—The Odyssey
