How to use the strategy • Draws out opinions or attitudes about a certain topic • Set-up is a series of statements that are thought provoking or controversial, worthy of debate • Normally do not have a neutral response, usually some form of agree/disagree • Should be no more than 10 statements
Benefits • Anonymous or not • Leads into discussion • Revisit first opinions for possible revision • Easy to use across all content areas • Allows for student expression • Provides teacher with valuable feedback • Can be used for a pre-reading assessment to gage students’ understanding of new or controversial topics
