7 Dimensions of Wellness Career • Finding personal fulfillment and satisfaction from our jobs or our chosen career fields while maintaining balance in our lives. Positively impacting the organizations we work in and society as a whole through our careers.
Examples • Make a budget • Plan a budget • Balance & Learn to say no • Prioritize tasks: to do lists • Schedule time for relaxation • Organize room and study area • Break down large tasks • Career counseling
7 Dimensions of Wellness Physical • Good physical fitness and confidence in one’s personal ability to take care of health problems.
Examples • Limit alcohol and drugs • Regular exercise: 3-4 times a week • Sleep: 7-8 hours; regular schedule • Healthy well-balanced diet • See a nutritionist • Multivitamin/ calcium/ vitamin C • WATER!!! • Get outside: sunshine and lighting
7 Dimensions of Wellness Spiritual • The ability to identify one’s basic purpose in life and to achieve one’s full potential; the sense of connectedness to a greater power.
Examples • What fills you with joy? • What is your sense of purpose? • Church • Student religious organization • Nature • Music • Prayer/ quiet reflection time/ meditation
7 Dimensions of Wellness Emotional • Refers to both our emotional and mental states- that is, to our feelings and thoughts.
Emotional • Counseling/outside perspective • Stressful situation: opportunities for growth • Yoga/tai chi • Breathing • Music/relaxations tapes • Blessings journal/ positive self-talk • Getting perspective/ realistic perspective; nobody is perfect
7 Dimensions of Wellness Social • The ability to interact effectively with other people and the social environment, to develop satisfying interpersonal relationships, and to fulfill social roles.
Examples • Develop supportive friendships • Clubs/organizations • Connecting/ sharing with friends • Volunteerism • Family • Avoid difficult colleagues, family members
7 Dimensions of Wellness Intellectual • Your ability to think and learn from life experience, your openness to ideas, and your capacity to question and evaluate information.
Examples • Books/magazines: pleasure reading • Hobby • Crafts • Humor/fun (board games) • Limit amount of news watched • Limit time on internet
7 Dimensions of Wellness Environmental • The impact your world has on your well-being.
Example • Use a water bottle • Recycle- paper/ plastic • Use reusable shopping bags • Recycle plastic bag • Pick up after yourself • Adopt-a-block • Use environmentally friendly substances • Walk/ carpool/ ride your bike
