Economic Systems Use page 91 in your World Geography textbook to answer the following questions: • What is an economy? • What is an economic system? • What is a command economy? • What do you think is one good thing and one bad thing about a command economy? • What is a market economy? • What do you think is one good thing and one bad thing about a market economy? • What is a mixed economy?

Chile - Notes • Between the 1920’s and 1973, Chile was governed by elected presidents who tended to the left side of the political spectrum • Many were socialist, meaning that they wanted the government to entirely control the economy and distribute wealth evenly • In 1973, a military coup put Augusto Pinochet in charge of a junta in Chile (put this on your timeline) • Coup: The sudden overthrow of a government • Junta: a government run by generals after a military takeover • Pinochet and the Junta pushed Chile’s economy far to the right on the political spectrum
