Name or essence? “What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d Retain that dear perfection which he owes Without that title.” William Shakespeare
Teaching – Learning Clear goals and outcomes of the education process? Huge drop-out rates Rigid curriculum + overload Learning facts and not how to learn - Critical thinking? Interdisciplinarity? Campaign learning and big final exam assessment Objective examination? Lack of mobility Recognition problems Student participation Facing reality
Small easy steps toward Bologna – proper way? • Evaluation of teaching? • Continuous assessment? • QA mechanisms? • ECTS? • Diploma Supplement? • Two cycle reform? Conclusion: Tendencies toward misinterpretations of Bologna objectives and toward the implementation a la carte. Student resistance and mistrust.
Starting from the essence – big difficult steps • Orientation toward output and generic competences • Development of the curriculum based on student working hours and not teacher working hours • Democratization of HE • Development of the sprit of cooperation • Taking care about social aspects • Constant self evaluation • Educational advising and support to teachers and students
Necessary prerequisites • Sufficient knowledge, understanding and general good will • New progressive legislative and statutes • More insisting on principles and not always making compromises (leadership role) • Looking the broader picture – are we academics or not?
What is the role of student unions? • Increase of knowledge • Dissemination of knowledge and information • Active involvement • Constant attention and care that everything is implemented as it should WE CANNOT MISS THE CHANCE!!!
