The Satyanarayan puja in Hindu tradition is usually done at home on full moon days, or Purnima. Satyanarayana Puja's roots are associated with the largest Mahapurana: Skanda Purana, the holy book. Narada, a Hindu sadhu, asked Lord Vishnu, the mantra, to end the people's miseries on Earth. Lord Vishnu urged Satyanarayana to attain Moksha in the Kalyuga. Satyanarayan Puja The word Satyanarayan comes from two words namely, Satya and Narayan. ‘Satya’ means truth and ‘Narayana’ means the highest being. So, Satyanarayan means ‘the highest being that is a symbol of truth’. Satyanarayan Puja is dedicated to the Narayana form of Lord Vishnu.
Appropriate Muhurat to perform Satyanarayan Puja The Ekadashi tithi, Chaturdashi Tithi or Poornima tithi is considered highly auspicious for devotees to perform Satyanarayan Puja. Devotees can conduct this puja at home, office, factory or in any other place
Story of Satyanarayan Katha The Satyanarayan Katha is divided into five different parts. It has been derived from the Skanda Purana, Reva Khanda. The katha was narrated by Suta Maharishi to a group of rishis who were doing a 1000 year yajna for the betterment and upliftment of humanity. Every story in this katha depicts how people suffered when they didn't keep their promise of doing puja after fulfilment of their wishes and desires. It is believed that Lord Vishnu was once questioned about how to achieve Moksha and eternal bliss by Narada. In response to which Lord Vishnu added that only by completing the Satyanarayan puja Katha and vidhi one can achieve true essence of eternal fulfilment.
Satyanarayan Katha Puja Vidhi • Arrange the puja samagri as narrated by Panditji. • Take a bath early in the morning and observe fast. The fast opens up after Puja ends. • Make a mandap with banana leaves. Place a wooden asana and place a Kalash filled with water. Decorate it with lights and flowers. • Place an idol or picture of Lord Satyanarayan. Lit a diya. • Begin the puja with Lord Ganesha aarti. Only after this aarti will the katha begin. • Narrate the entire katha to devotees. Do aarti of Lord Satyanarayan and other deities. • Offer prasad to Lord Satyanarayan and then distribute prasad/sweets amongst people.
