  4. Becoming a Change Agent • Any bad habits are you ‘inherited’ from your parents? Foul language? Smoking? Gambling? • The good news is that you can stop the cycle • You can become a ‘Change Agent’ and pass on good habits to future generations.

  14. The story of Denise I know it’s strange for a teenager to want to work in a library, but I really wanted that job – more than I had ever wanted anything, but they weren’t hiring.

  15. The story of Denise I would go to the library every day and read, hang out with my friends, and just get away from home – what better place to work than someplace I already hung out at?

  16. The story of Denise Although I didn’t have a job there, I got to know the office staff, and I volunteered for special events and pretty soon I was one of the regulars.

  17. The story of Denise It paid off. When they finally had an opening, I was their first choice, and I found one of the best jobs I ever had.

  18. Just push pause • If we are reactive – we tend to blow up and make things worse Whenever we are faced with a situation that has a tendency to upset us, it is important to stop and think (Push Pause)

  19. Self-Awareness I can stand apart from myself and observe my thoughts and actions I can think about what I am doing and what I should be doing

  20. Self-Awareness I have been mean to mom because she bugs me about my grades. -> My grades are bad because I have been staying up late talking to friends. -> I have been talking to friends because I want to have a connection with people. -> ……

  21. Imagination I can envision new possibilities We can actually look into the future and imagine what can happen. Imagination helps us create goals

  22. Imagination What happens when I react poorly? Demerit? Expel? In jail? Unemployed? What happens when I react appropriately? Appreciation from teachers? Get a job? Promotion?

  23. Conscience I can listen to my inner voice and know right from wrong

  24. Conscience You know its wrong to hit, kick, steal, take drugs, not doing your school work. You know its right to help, be respectful, be kind, be honest, do your school work

  25. Willpower We have the power to choose We don’t have to react We can choose to do right or wrong

  26. Be Proactive – A summary Fight against the Victimitis Virus Knowing that what you can control is your Attitude ONLY Be a Change Agent to stop bad habit cycle Build up Can-Do attitude Push Pause and use the power tools

  27. Reflection Use your power tools to handle the following case. You receive a grade from teacher that you think is unfair. Push pause and use your power tools.
