Tomlinson, Email: ktomlinson@worldbank.org Introduction The World Bank East Asia and Pacific region is launching a three-part seminar series to discuss project preparation, outcomes, and lessons learned of HIV/AIDS education campaigns already in effect, as well as plans to implement new programs in the region. The seminar will provide opportunity for Client countries to learn best practices and plan their own HIV/AIDS intervention programs associated with infrastructure projects, under the guidance of the World Bank. It is anticipated that the series will enable decision makers to think differently about the design, planning and implementation of social safeguards related to infrastructure projects in their countries, and better plan for mitigation of social impacts on transport projects. The overall objective of the seminar is to support mainstreaming HIV/AIDS awareness programs in transport projects, The target audiences of this seminar series are transport agency staff and decision makers in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, and Vietnam; World Bank Task Team Leaders are also targeted in these presentations for program implementation. As appropriate, all information and resources developed through these discussions will be made available to interested governments, NGOs, agencies, and other development partners by the Bank. Seminar Agenda This seminar will discuss past successes incorporating HIV/AIDS education campaigns in regional projects. The presentations will discuss the: (i) HIV/AIDS epidemic in general and its relevance to transport and mobility; and (ii) successful experiences from the Third Jiangxi Highway Project and interventions in Cambodia. Future plans for regional campaigns will also be briefly discussed. This session will close with a Q&A seeking to address any issues or concerns raised about program implementation and direction. Information in support of future programs will further be provided in sessions 2 and 3 of this series.
