This study compares thrombus aspiration prior to PCI versus standard PCI alone in STEMI patients, showing better myocardial blush, ST-segment resolution, and lower mortality rates. Thrombus aspiration may improve survival and adverse events. Trial design and statistical significance are highlighted.

TAPAS: 1-Month Results Good myocardial blush: 46% with aspiration and 32% with standard PCI (p<0.001) ST-segment resolution: 57% and 44%, respectively (p<0.001) Death: 2.1% and 4.0%, respectively (p=0.07) Trial design:Patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction were randomized to thrombus aspiration prior to PCI (n=535) or standard PCI without aspiration (n=536). Results p < 0.001 p = 0.07 46 % 32 4.0 Conclusions 2.1 • In STEMI, thrombus aspiration prior to PCI is superior to standard PCI without aspiration • Thrombus aspiration improves myocardial blush and ST-segment resolution • Thrombus aspiration may improve adverse events including survival Good myocardial blush Mortality Thrombus aspiration and PCI (n = 535) PCI alone (n = 536) Svilaas T et al.
