3. Rationale Research indicates that students learn in different ways and at various rates.
Reteaching and retesting are beneficial to all stakeholders: students are held more accountable for learning; parents understand their child is given an opportunity to improve; and teachers ensure students master the content. Students also acquire the skills to be successful in the next grade level’s courses.
4. Policy ?A student will be allowed to retest within 10 days of receiving his/her test grade. Eligibility requirements must be met.
?Students must be given the opportunity to retest on major/unit tests provided by the teacher. Any student may retest, and all teachers of a particular subject offer reteaching/retesting.
?Students may not retest on Common Term Assessments.

5. Eligibility Requirements Any test score may be improved upon.Student invests before/after school time.Course syllabus outlines each teachers’ specific tutorial requirements. Tutoring sessions and work must be completed within the specified time. Students who misbehave to avoid class assignments or deliberately fail to study for the first assessment may lose eligibility.
6. Procedure ?The student must request reteaching/retesting from the teacher.
?The teacher will designate reteach assignments and tutoring date/time.
?The student is required to attend the reteaching sessions and complete all work assigned in order to be eligible for the retest.
7. Special Notes A parent can request that his/her child be administered a retest on any major assessments.
The higher of the two grades will be recorded.
Not all secondary teachers have the same requirements so be sure to check the syllabus or email the teacher if you have questions.

9. Common Term Assessments(CTA’s) Common Term Assessments are administered at the secondary level in grades 6-12.
Students are tested in major core areas: English, Math, Social Studies, Science.
CTAs are 20% of a student’s term grade.
The Course Syllabus provides objectives and coursework for the term in lieu of a “study guide”.
