  3. TRANSCRIPTS What should I see on the transcript to know my child is on track for graduation? • English 9A, 9B, 10A, • Algebra A and B, Algebra IIAand B or higher math • Biology 1 and 2, one additional science credit • World History 1 and 2 • At least one credit in a World Language completed--suggested • Phys Ed 1 and 2 • Health or enrolled

AREA 31 – JUNIOR YEAR -Most programs run 3 periods at A31 and 3 periods at CHS -AM--transportation available from CHS (bus leaves at 6:30am) to A31 and return -PM--no transportation available -Some programs are off site of A31--be sure to read and ask questions -good attendance, good grades, around 24 credits Period -Bus leaves at 6:30 from Cascade HS P1 Area 31 P2 Area 31 P3 Travel P4 class?? SCHEDULING • You should sign off on classes your child needs to take for next year - see beige scheduling form – due Feb. 14th • Area 31 Applications are on-line but still place on CHS Scheduling worksheet • www.area31enrollment.com/login • Mark any retakes as credit recovery or in classroom; *some must be in classroom* • Check diploma type • Curriculum guide can be found under the guidance website! Students must take a rigorous schedule that is challenging and prepares a transcript for college and/or career.

Indiana Online Academy • Summer School—about 3-4 hours a day • An option…..not for everyone • $00 recommend 1 class only; could take 2 • All work is completed on-line but final must be passed and taken at Cascade HS in July. • Interested? 1) Fill out the section on your beige scheduling form. 2) Go to www.indianaonlineacademy.com

  10. Academic Honors Diploma • Complete requirements for diploma desired. • AHD – 47 credits • Students pursuing the Core 40 w/Academic Honors Diploma must: 1. Earn a grade of a “C-” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma; 2. Have a grade point average of a 2.7 or higher; 3. Complete ONE of the following: A. Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exams; B. Earn 6 verifiable, transcripted college credits via courses designated as dual credit on the State Approved High School Course Titles Summary

  11. Tech Honors Diploma • In addition to fulfilling the required requirements, students pursuing the Core 40 w/Technical Honors Diploma must: 1. Earn a grade of a “C-” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma; 2. Have a grade point average of a 2.7 or higher; 3. Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway 4. ONE of the following: *State-approved, industry-recognized certification or credential *Pathway dual credits from courses designated as dual credit on the State Approved High School Course Titles Summary resulting in 6 transcripted college credits 5. Complete ONE of the following: 6. Any one of the options (A – F) of the Core 40 w/Academic Honors (see page 3);

DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES • Courses in which students can earn both high school and college credits - Credits transfer, grades do not. • Dual Credit Courses used to meet AHD requirements must be from priority course list • There are many dual credit opportunities being offered here at CHS next year. • IVY Tech English 111 and English 206, Math 136/137, Government, Economics, Speech and Psychology • IED, POE, CEA, AML • Must have a 2.7 GPA or higher to take senior year

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES • AP courses and corresponding exams while rigorous, don’t automatically result in college credit. • All AP classes are grade weighted • Students who earn a score of 3 or higher will receive college credit toward their degree at any Indiana public institution of higher education. • A score higher than 3 may be required to award college credit for a course that is part of a students’ major, but the student must still receive credit that counts toward his/her overall degree requirements. • AP participation linked to college completion • Students who score well on AP exams are more likely to earn a college degree. • AP US History, AP Language, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental, AP Calculus, AP Biology • Estimated cost of each Social Studies exam is $92 • PSAT results – AP Potential • Use www.transferin.net to see how an IN college will award college credit

  14. Indiana Career Explore • We encourage students and parents to visit Indiana Career Explorer. All students have created a profile and have the ability to keep information on the site. There are valuable college and career websites, interest surveys, volunteer data tracking and resume building activities. Students were asked to pick 2 careers!

  15. ISTEP 10 – Math, English, Science • Sophomores must take ISTEP 10 • ISTEP 10 - Two testing windows – 2/26-3/9 and 4/16-5/4 • English – • Math – • Science – We will be having an ISTEP Blitz!

  16. ACT and SAT • Register online • Send scores to schools for free when you register • Recommendation—take at least one junior year in the Spring • Study for free—online and PSAT results • Fee Waivers (extended to college apps) for free and reduced students • What to bring on test day—picture ID, know where you are going, pencil • Information in the guidance office

  17. College Visits • Two days for junior and senior year • No visits late in May • You can set up or Mr. DuBois will help you set up • Choose wisely where you go and with whom you go • Paperwork must be signed and turned in three school days before your visit • Use the Fall and Spring Breaks

  18. PSAT • All sophomore and juniors will take the PSAT. The PSAT is a pre-test for the SAT. • Junior year PSAT = Scholarships?? • All sophomores were given the results after Christmas break. We have set-up a College Board accounts for each student. On this account, he/she can explore: • Register for the SAT next year. • Look at their PSAT question and answers. • Explore careers based on PSAT. • Khan Academy – indivualized prep for the SAT. • Plus, AP Potential results which indicates what students should excel in certain AP classes.

HENDRICKS COUNTY COLLEGE FAIR • Targeted towards 10th and 11th graders. • Feb. 22ndfrom 5-8 pm at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Convention Center. • Workshops begin at 5pm and fair is open from 6:30-8pm. • There will be over 75 colleges in attendance • Some of the workshops include: • Admissions, scholarships, careers, essay writing, financial aidand more. • Visit www.HendricksCollegeNetwork.org for more info

  20. XYZ UNIVERSITY 1. Strength of your high school curriculum (including your senior year) & diploma type 2. Successful completion of four years of English, three years of college preparatory mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry,; three years of science (two with lab), and three years of social studies. Foreign language study is strongly recommended but not required. 3. GPA- XYZ University uses an academic GPA on a 4.0 scale based only on college prep and academic course work completed. 4. SAT or ACT scores - (We superscore, which means we take your best score from each section for a final score. You may retake either test and submit new scores an unlimited number of times.) 5. Participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, performing groups, student government, student publications, civic, charitable organizations, etc.
