  2. The Constitution • Came in force in 1789 • Amended 27 times • First 10 Amendments also known “Bill of Rights” • Specific protections of individual liberty and justice • Place restrictions on the powers of government • In permanent display at the National Archives in Washington D.C.

  3. The Flag • Created in 1777 • Modified 26 times, mostly to include new states • Current version adopted in July 1960 • Stars = 50 States • Stripes = the original 13 colonies

Interesting State Facts • Pennsylvania = the first Stigmatine house (Hazleton) • Hawaii = used to be an independent, a monarchy • Utah = has the largest population of Mormons • New Mexico = Highest % of Catholics: 34% • California = the largest number of Catholics: 3.7million • Massachusetts = built the 1st subway system in 1897 • Texas = used to be part of Mexico • Washington D.C. = the US capital • Not a State but a district • Mostly African Americanpopulation
