Château de Villandry • Brooke Burkman • French II Period 4
Information about the chateau • When was the château built? During the French Renaissance period. • For whom was the château built? Villandry was not built for any one person. • For what reason was the château built? It was built as a manor by Jean le Breton.
Three unique features of the château • 1. Villandry has extensive beautiful gardens. • 2. The gardens have three tiers of terracing each in a different style of gardening. • 3. The castle was developed with more of an Italian Renassaince style than a French one.
Two Important events: • 1. The ground on which the castle originally stood served first as a feudal stronghold in an English and French battle. • 2. The castles architect, Jean le Breton, also constructed parts of Fontainebleau and Chambord.
My opinion of the château • I like this chateau because of the gardens. I would like to live in Villandry because could walk everyday, but I would not like to live here because it seems somewhat isolated.
Château quiz • Five fill in the blank questions and answers about your château • 1. During what time period was Villandry built? • 2. Who was the main architect of Villandry? • 3. What is Villandry’s most famous feature? • 4. What style of chateau is Villandry? • 5. How many levels of gardens are there at Villandry?
Personal interest 1 Villandry seems like a wonderful place to go to for a short break from normal life. It does seem somewhat isolated which is what I need many a time during the year.
Personal interest 2 If I had unlimited expenses I would travel to the Loire Valley and visit all the chateau. I love walking and looking at nature and I believe I would feel well relaxed on a walk through the Villandry gardens.
