  7. Each visit SIP needs update since last visit and brings any new trends nationally or really good ideas. We focus on: • PUPIL ACHIEVEMENT – Autumn especially data analysis and exam results linked to progress over time and the Progression Guidance • QUALITY OF TEACHING – Each visit check on latest evidence, observe any new staff or if there are concerns – carry out themed learning walks each visit

LEADERSHIP and MANAGEMENT – each visit but especially Autumn for Head’s Performance Management with Governors and School Development Plan Spring and summer re curriculum with SLT and subject Leaders plus other leaders Specialism, Therapy, Care and Finance etc…. Support L&M at ALL levels 4. BEHAVIOUR and SAFETY of pupils- each visit check on any safeguarding issues, attendance, exclusions, students not in class or on personalised programmes. • Plus a particular focus on SEND – any individuals or groups – I like to see the students and the staff!

Spring visit – T&L and Curriculum • Focus on Quality of Teaching – checking evidence and validating judgements – observe and feedback • Coaching /CPD • Check progress of SDP priorities • Curriculum leaders and files • Overview of each area and subject • Students on personalised plans? • Update on any changes since last visit

  15. Summer visit- Specialism Therapy and Care • Update since last visit • Issues priorities and plans • Learning walk and or observations • SMSC/CC evidence • Case study progress – samples of IEPs/Annual Reviews/Reports/Students’ work • Annual Report for Governors???

  16. Discuss Report • Supported Self Evaluation • Self review validated • Provide Support and Challenge • Clarify priorities • Time • Value • Use – for who? Governors?

School Improvement • Makes clear that schools –‘governors, head teachers and teachers’ have responsibility for improvement. If schools are providing a good education they will be free to set their own targets and improvement priorities. • Schools below the floor standard not progressing, or are judged inadequate will be subject to intervention with the presumption they will be converting into Academy Status.
