How can we make sure that each quote that we choose supports a main point? How to build a citation sandwich: • Introduce the idea presented in the quote in a sentence: • “Present the quote” (Author’s Last Name #). • Explain the significance of the quote. What does this quote show or prove about your main point? (3-6 sentences)
Example: Schlosser exposes the deceitful strategies used by the McDonald’s corporation in order to prevent their workers from unionizing: “A ‘flying squad’ of experienced managers and corporate executives was sent to a restaurant the moment union activity was suspected. … The workers were flattered and stroked. And more importantly, they were encouraged to share information about the union’s plans and the names of union sympathizers” (76). The executives of the McDonald’s corporation manipulate workers into believing that they truly care about their needs and are appreciative of their hard work. In reality, these single-minded executives are only concerned about one thing: money. The low wages that workers are paid for the work that they do is unjustified, but the corporation has developed strategies, just like this flying squad, in order to calm and control their low-paid workers. **Create a quote sandwich for each of your quotes (you should have at least 6 notecards)
