  2. Venus • Venus is the second closest planet to the sun, which makes it one of the hottest . • Venus is seen as being very young because it has few craters.

  3. Surface of Venus • the pressure on Venus is about the same as being a centimeter • the atmosphere is composed of mostly carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid clouds • it is a volcanic planet but there are few eruptions

  4. The Temperature on Venus • The surface temperature can get between 400-860 degrees Fahrenheit • It has extremely strong winds that barely decrease the temperature, even at night.

  7. Why are Venus and Earth so alike • Venus and Earth are considered sister planets because they have similar densities and chemical compositions. • Venus is 95% of Earth’s diameter and 80% of Earth’s mass.

  8. The interior of Venus • The interior of Venus is a lot like earths interior it has a core, mantle, and crust. • The mantle is 30,000 km of rock, and 3,000 km of liquid or solid core.

Venus’ atmosphere • It’s green house effect and it raises the temperature of the surface • Even though Mercury is closer to the Sun, Venus is hotter. • The reason it’s hotter on Venus is because of the green house affect. It keeps the heat inside of the atmosphere, making it hotter than Mercury.

  10. Venus’ year • Venus has 224.65 days to orbit. • Venus has 243 days to rotate around it’s axis. • Venus’ day is longer than it’s year. It goes around the sun faster than it rotates on it’s axis. • That means that it’s days are longer than it’s years.

  11. Venus’ Probes • 1962 the Mariner2 flew 34,000 kilometers from the surface. • The first probe to land on Venus was the Soviet Unions probe Venera 7. • Although Venera 7 landed on Venus after 1 hour the high temperatures disabled the probe.

  12. The Probes Objectives. • Pioneer Venus objectives in the Venusian environment was to investigate it’s solar winds. • They probes were also sent out to take pictures of the surface. So they could map out the characteristics.
