Choosing antivirus prepared for Russian office, 13 workstations December 2005 by Petya Kohts
Goal Active, flexible, transparent, scalable protection of user workstations against: Viruses Worms Trojans Adware Spyware Grayware
Investigated products • Kaspersky Business Optimal • TrendMicro OfficeScan • Symantec Antivirus
Symantec Antivirus CE Doesn’t effectively protect against spyware and trojans (was installed in Moscow office, during workstations revisions 3 workstations of 10 were infected by 3 different trojans)
Kaspersky Business Optimal • Russian interface (Russian product) • Not very convenient centralized administration • Much confusing user interaction on client side • Average 1st year license price: $32.5 • 2nd year license discount: 30% • Minimum license pack: 5 licenses
TrendMicro OfficeScan • Proven records of scalability (up to 50000 clients per administration server) • Very convenient centralized administration • Minimum user interaction • Average 1st year license price: $35.7 • 2nd year license discount: 70% • Minimum license pack: 26 licenses
Conclusion In the long run Kaspersky turns out to be more expensive than Trendmicro while being less flexible for administrator and less transparent for users. I propose to buy TrendMicro OfficeScan.
