Purpose • This report provides a snapshot of the indicators of the district’s college and career preparation status. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
Executive Summary • Nearly one third of the graduates from 2006-07 qualified to attend a UC or CSU. • At least 61% of Fall 2006 CSU freshmen who graduated from LUSD were proficient in English Language Arts and Mathematics. • Approximately 47% of AP exams submitted in 2006-07 received scores eligible for college credit. • On average, LUSD students received 56% of the points possible on the PSAT and 62% of the points possible on the SAT in 2006-07. • Students who completed a sequenced Career Technical Education (CTE) program or who were enrolled in one of the district’s academies had a graduation rate of at least 90.7% according to the district’s Career and Technical Education department. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
Pre-College Preparation • Approximately 32% of the district’s comprehensive high school graduating seniors were qualified to attend a UC or CSU upon high school graduation in 2006-07. • Also, of the district’s juniors who participated in the 2006-07 CSU Early Assessment Program: • 66% received an exemption or conditional exemption from the CSU Math Placement Test, and • 14% received an exemption or conditional exemption from the CSU English Placement Test. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
Pre-College Preparation • A total of 61% and 74% of the CSU incoming freshmen in the Fall of 2006 who graduated from the Lodi Unified School District were proficient in English Language Arts and Mathematics, respectively. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
Pre-College Exams • Approximately 47% of Advanced Placement (AP) exams submitted from each comprehensive high school received a score of 3 or more and qualified for college credit during the 2006-07 school year. • Performance on AP exams was higher for males than females, and was higher for Hispanic and White students than Asian and African American students during the 2006-07 school year. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
Pre-College Exams • District grade 10 and grade 11 students who participated on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) received 56% and 59%, respectively, of the points possible during the 2006-07 school year. • Performance on the PSAT was higher for male than female students, and was higher for White students than Asian, African American, and Hispanic students during the 2006-07 school year. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

Career Technical Education (CTE) • Students who completed a sequenced Career Technical Education (CTE) program or who were enrolled in one of the district’s academies had a graduation rate of at least 90.7% according to the district’s Career and Technical Education department. • CTE program completer’s graduation rate: 90.7% • Academies’ graduation rate: 94.7% 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) Course Completion • Course completion rates are measured by the number of graduated students who completed the required A-G course pattern for admission to the UC and CSU campuses. • A – G requirements include a total of 15 courses from history (2), English (4), math (3), science (2), foreign language (2), visual and performing arts (1), and college prep electives (1). 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

California State University (CSU) Early Assessment Program (EAP) Results • EAP is a joint venture of California public schools, the CSU and the California Department of Education. • EAP results are used to determine readiness for enrollment in college level English and math courses at CSU. Grade 11 students who pass the EAP exams are exempted from taking CSU English and/or Math placement exams. • These results identify the need for additional preparation for college-level courses and helps seniors plan coursework. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

CSU English and Math Proficiency Rates • CSU calculates proficiency rates of incoming freshmen students each fall to determine how many students will require remedial courses in English and math prior to enrolling in college level courses. • Students may obtain proficiency via: • CSU placement tests • College preparation tests (i.e. SAT, AP, etc.) • EAP results 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

AP, PSAT, and SAT Exams • AP (Advanced Placement exam scores) can exempt students from college courses or pre-requisites in addition to providing college level credit. • PSAT measures critical reading, writing and math skills preparing students for the SAT. • SAT measures writing, math, and critical reading skills (SAT I) scores are used for college entrance and course placement, as well as specific subject areas (SAT II). 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation

Career Technical Education (CTE) • The mission of Career-Technical Education is to help empower students for effective participation in an international economy as world-class workers and citizens. • CTE programs are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics. • CTE programs are also designed to help students develop the ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems, and utilize technology. 015 2007-08 College and Career Preparation
