  6. What Is The Windows Azure Platform? Windows Azure is an internet-scale cloud services platform hosted in Microsoft data centers around the world, proving a simple, reliable and powerful platform for the creation of web applications and services.

Key Markets • New Business’ not wanting to invest in long term hosting infrastructure • Web sites with elastic volume requirements eg. www.missuniverse.com • New business looking to go straight to the cloud • Business looking to start moving to the cloud with a trusted brand • Microsoft shops looking to move into the cloud with a familiar technology

  8. Key Considerations • Azure • does not provide traditional hosted servers (yet) and therefore; • does not replace the outsourced server hosting providers eg. ICO • does not replace Web Site hosting • Putting sensitive data in the cloud ? • Still considered a Business Risk • Data Sovereignty remains a key concern to most business’ • There is no Azure data centre in Australia • Business’ are comfortable that they control their data • Architecture • For business with existing data, it is a re-architecture • Only in a few cases is it a simple case of “porting” in an existing application • Value will only be seen in solutions built to utilise the platform features
