  1. 1) Find the area of this circle: 6cm 6cm

  2. 1) Find the area of this circle: 6cm 6cm • 28.3cm² Area = r² = x 3² = 28.3 cm²

  3. 2) Find the area of this circle: 10cm

  4. 2) Find the area of this circle: • 78.5 cm² 10cm Area = r² = x 5² = 78.5 cm²

  5. 3) Find the area of this circle. Leave your answer in terms of : 8cm

  6. 3) Find the area of this circle. Leave your answer in terms of : 16 cm² 8cm

  7. Cylinders • Aim: to calculate the volume of a cylinder

  8. A cylinder is a type of prism. Area of a circle = r² Volume of a prism = Area of cross-section x length/height Volume of cylinder = r² h

  9. Calculate the volume of the cylinder: 5cm 6cm Volume of cylinder = r² h Volume = x (2.5)² x 6 = 37.5 = 117.8 cm³ (to 1 dp)

  10. Calculate the volume of the cylinder: 10cm 13cm Volume of cylinder = r² h Volume = x 5² x 13 = 325 = 1021.0 cm³ (to 1 dp)

  11. June 2008 Higher Calculator Paper

  12. I don’t know how to calculate the volume and of a cylinder. I think I know how to calculate the volume of a cylinder, but need more practice. I know how to calculate the volume of a cylinder.

  13. Surface Area of a Cylinder Circumference = 2 r or d Height (h) d h Surface area of curved part of cylinder = d h

  14. Area of top circle = r² Surface area of curved part of cylinder = d h Area of bottom circle = r² Total Surface Area of a Cylinder = d h + 2 r²

  15. Calculate the total surface area of the cylinder: 4cm 6cm Surface Area = ( x 4 x 6) + (2 x x 2²) = 24 + 8 = 32 = 100.5 cm³ (to 1 d.p.) Total Surface Area of a Cylinder = d h + 2 r²

  16. Calculate the total surface area of the cylinder: 8cm 10cm Surface Area = ( x 8 x 10) + (2 x x 4²) = 80 + 32 = 112 = 351.9 cm³ (to 1 d.p.) Total Surface Area of a Cylinder = d h + 2 r²
