Global Environment • The Chilean fruit industry is ranked anywhere from first to fifth in the world in production of fruit.
Global Environment • The Chilean government has helped create this huge export industry through their promotion of industry since the 1970’s.
National Environment • The various climates and isolation of Chile make it ideal for fruit production. • Isolation means there is a lessened risk of crop damage from plagues and viruses • Variety of climates allows for production of many different types of fruit • The fruit industry is seen as an important sector for growth in the Chilean economy and is encouraged by the government to expand.
History • Company founded by Luis Bozzolo & Sons in 1908. • Located in Quillota • 120 km north of Santiago • Town famous for fruit and vegetable production • Originally dedicated to production of tomato paste • After WWII: • Production of canned legumes (green beans, corn, peas)
History • 1950’s • Began canning peaches, apricots, and strawberries, and jams • Began manufacturing their own containers • Making them more self-sufficient
