It is encouraging to hear the news that officials have finally planned a campaign to safeguard the health of its citizens ("Officials hold anti-smoking event" June 01, Page 2). Through this thought-provoking article, we learn that our government is working hard to support the building of a smoke-free environment in Taiwan. Quitting smoking not only reduces the risk of lung cancer, but also prevents pregnant woman from giving premature births. Through this measure, we don't have to suffer from second-hand smoking everywhere we go. There will also not be so many cigarette butts on the ground, that rob us of a clean and beautiful environment. It is gratifying that our government is drafting a Tobacco Hazard Control Act to push for a smoke-free environment so as to protect the health for all.
